Kompleks Dermaga Tanjung Lembung has been in operation since 1997 and has consistently improved its services over time. In light of the global awareness of climate change and its impact on Langkawi Port Sdn Bhd’s operations, we have taken proactive measures by implementing a green initiative through the installation of a solar system.
Why Solar Energy?
The Port recognizes the significance of energy efficiency and renewable energy in reducing our air emissions footprint and cutting operational costs. Solar energy, as an emerging technology, serves as an effective strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Overcoming Space Constraints:
Given the limited space available at Kompleks Dermaga Tanjung Lembung, we have chosen to install solar panels on the rooftops of our warehouses, maximizing the utilization of the port’s available space. We have successfully installed 1116 solar panels, with a total capacity of 373.90 kWp, across all our warehouses.
Cost Savings:
Since August 2022, our solar system has been operating at full capacity, significantly reducing and saving power consumption at Kompleks Dermaga Tanjung Lembung. Through the Net Energy Metering (NEM) program, we also benefit from additional savings by selling surplus electricity generated by our solar panels.
Geographic Advantage:
Situated in the northern region of Malaysia, Kompleks Dermaga Tanjung Lembung receives an estimated 3.99 hours of solar irradiation per day in Langkawi. This geographical advantage enables our company to effectively harness solar energy for our electricity needs.
Environmental Sustainability:
By utilizing solar power instead of fossil fuels, we actively contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and other pollutants in the atmosphere, which are linked to health and environmental issues such as childhood asthma. Solar power is a renewable resource available worldwide, replenished naturally every day. Moreover, it enhances energy independence, particularly during peak demand times and emergencies.
